Index of the Major Hadith Collections

Course Overview

In the third part of the series, students will go through the remainder of the anthology, covering compilations such as the Sahih of Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, and the al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim. The course will look at the differences between first and second tier collections, such as Sahih Bukhari and Muslim, and third tier collections by muhaddithin such as Ibn Hajr al-’Asqalani. Students will be provided with an understanding of the differences in methodology, classifications, and definitions employed by the muhaddithin of all tiers.

Additionally, the collections of hadith scholars such as al-Daraqutni, al-Bayhaqi, and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi will be studied and assessed for their respective accuracy, purposes, and methodologies.

The popularity of collecting 40 hadith on a given topic will be studied alongside the secondary collections of Imam Bukhari (al-Adab al-Mufrad), al-Nasa’i (Amal al-Yaym wa al-Laylah) and others in this third and final part of the Bustan al-Muhaddithin series.

A Summary of most Hadith works

This is a great class to listen to if one wants to know most of the great literature on Hadith available out there. There are a few works missing since the author did not have access to them, but even these are mentioned by Shaykh Akram.

You will not only learn about the great works but also about great men of this field. This is ideal for a beginner who wants a summary but also for one who plans to get into the field of Hadith and have a great array of texts that one can study to master the field.
