Exegesis of the Last Ten Surahs

Course Overview

This course provides a detailed commentary on the last 10 surahs of the Quran, from Surah al-Fil to Surah al-Nas. These short surahs at the end of the Quran are often recited in the prayer and are amongst the first surahs that are memorised. The course provides a thematic overview of each of them and details their close relationship with each other, as well as detailing the historical events to which they relate.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Understand the narratives and themes present in the last ten surahs of the Quran
• Demonstrate awareness of the reasons of revelation (asbab al-nuzul) of these surahs
• Demonstrate familiarity with the tafsir of the last ten surahs of the Quran
• Appreciate the historical events which are described by the Quran
