Description
This course tackles the challenging issues associated with Islam and Modernity: what is Islam? How do we define it and how was it described and taught by the prophet? In the modern era, Islam as a concept and as a way of life faces both internal and external pressures. This course expounds upon some of the more pressing issues such as: democratisation and individualism, technological and scientific ‘progress’, and calls from within and without the Islamic community for reform and modernisation.
